Our Berlin leather features rich color, a firm texture, and a beautiful, smooth finish. Berlin is a vegetable-tanned and aniline-dyed leather, made from full-grain Northern European cowhides. Aniline dyeing is the most natural method of adding color to leather, and one that results in a leather surface that looks almost transparent, with the hide s original markings completely visible underneath. As a result, only the finest rawhides can typically be used, and any markings you see are hallmarks of the natural leather surface. The oils in Berlin will also come out over time and allow the leather to burnish and develop a beautiful patina. Berlin is produced by a 5th generation German tannery, that also has a Gold rating from the Leather Working Group (LWG). LWG certifies tanneries based on environmental factors such as energy use, waste production and water treatment.
